Join a Committee
To fully support our diverse student body, create a rich learning environment, and uphold our focus on civil rights, the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) needs your help!
Joining a committee is one of the best ways to get involved at Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy. Each committee plays an important role in building our community, raising funds, and enriching our students’ experience. All committees welcome volunteers throughout the year—whether you have a little time or a lot.
Committee chairs are asked to attend the monthly PFC meetings. PFC Board Officers are asked to attend the monthly PFC meeting and Board meetings.

Our Committees

| Before/After Care | Liaison with YMCA coordinators and support families with enrollment, programming, and childcare at events. |
| Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEIC) | Promote diversity, equity, and community across the school. |
| Drag Show | Organize our signature Drag Show and silent auction fundraiser with the Castro community. |
| Events | Plan and host school-wide gatherings like the Back-to-School Picnic, Movie Night, and Spring Carnival. |
| Fundraising: Annual Giving Campaign | Lead our primary fall fundraiser, running September–January. |
| Fundraising: Donations | Process, track, and manage donations across multiple platforms. |
| Fundraising: Grant Writing | Identify and apply for grants in partnership with SSC and staff. |
| Fundraising: Shop & Dine | Coordinate fundraising nights with local restaurants and businesses. |
| Garden | Maintain and beautify our school garden and outdoor spaces. |
| Google Workspace & Website | Manage Google Workspace and website accounts, supporting tech best practices. |
| (Proposed) LGBTQ+ Pride | Organize queer family meetups and Pride Month activities. |
| Read-a-thon | Coordinate our annual reading celebration and fundraiser in February–March. |
| Room Parents | Support communication and coordination between teachers, families, and the PFC. |
| Snacks | Oversee weekly distribution of snacks and fruit for classrooms, and coordinate volunteers. |
| Swag | Design and sell Harvey Milk spirit gear, including online and event sales. |
| Tours | Lead and coordinate school tours for prospective families (fall–spring). |
| Welcome | Welcome new families with playdates and community-building events in spring and summer. |
| Yearbook | Design, produce, and publish the annual school yearbook. |
Not ready to join a committee? You can also volunteer in your child’s classroom (see volunteer guidelines), serve as a Room Parent, help in the library (contact kerns1@sfusd.edu) or help at a specific event.
